FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some frequently asked questions and their answers.
Who are you?
What is the price for club web sites?
I expect club websites to always be free.
What is your price for daylily nurseries?
Websites are free for AHS members.
If this takes off and ultimately hosts hundreds of sites,
then I might have a yearly fundraising drive of some sort.
However, I believe I can host a LOT of sites under my current setup.
Would I edit/revise my own data or submit it to someone else to change?
I will help you as much as I can, but ultimately I would
like for you maintain the data in your own site.
I will try to make the data management as simple as possible.
There are no limits to how often you may change your data.
If you can provide me with a spreadsheet sales list, then I can do an inital import of your data.
Similiarly, if you can provide me with a CD of images where the name of each image matches a name in your sales list,
then I can do the initial import of your images as well.
See the
Get Started link for more info.
Does the web site address have to be daylilyfans.com/my_site/?
Are there any page limits or limits to the size of the site?
No. I don't foresee any need for such limits.
Are there any other limits to the usage of the site?
The site needs to be primarily daylily related.
Any items for sale should be either daylilies or daylily related merchandise.
The occasional companion plant is acceptable. :)
You shouldn't use the site to share copyrighted content unless you own the copyright.
You shouldn't put anything on the site that I would feel uncomfortable showing to my 9 year old daughter.
Will you support online payment?
I have plans to integrate with Paypal and Google Checkout.
However, I have not yet started those integrations and I do not know when they will be finished.
You would need to have an account with either PayPal or Google Checkout, but your customers would not.
PayPal or Google will likely charge you a small fee per transaction and a small percentage of the total.
Does my site have to look like identical to all the other sites?
Currently, you can specify different colors and fonts.
In the future, you will likely be able to choose among different layouts,
but I do not have a timetable for offering that functionality.
There is a good chance that I can reuse your current site design if you are happy with it.
Also, if you have a theme/template that you like, then I can probably use it.
Here are a few sites that offer free templates/themes
Can you provide assistance with generating a logo, a nice header, etc.?
No. I am choosing to focus my efforts on things that better suit my strengths.
However, if you have a logo or header, then we can determine the best way to use it on your site.
What are my other options for creating/hosting a daylily web site?
A
Google search for web hosting returned over 100 million hits this morning, so you have lots of options.

If you would like to create your own site, then there are several hosting providers that would allow you do that. A few are listed below.
The daylilyfans.com site is hosted by
WebFaction. Their services are more geared towards programmers.
If that describes you, then I highly recommend them.
Why did you start this site?
I wanted a good excuse to work with technologies that I don't get to use in my day job, specifically
Linux,
Python, and
Django.
I also felt like there were many garden owners who would appreciate being able to easily update their listings when needed.
Why are you offering this service for free?
I want people to use it.
I want to see more daylily info and pictures on line.
I want to have some practice running a public site with a lot of users.
